My Paralegal Technology Glossary

This is for the paralegals or law students who mostly speaks French who wants to practice their field of study in English.Since we are studying our technology in French it is important to apply what we learn in French in English too because there is a high population in Quebec that speaks English.We have to know how to communicate and help our clients no matter what languages they are talking.

Accused: noun; a person or group of people who are charged with or on trial for a crime; Example: the accused was ordered to stand trialing on a number of charges; fr: Accusé
Argument: noun; a reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others that an action or idea is right or wrong; Example: there is a strong argument for submitting a formal appeal; fr: Argument
Assault: noun; make a physical attack on; Example: he pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer; fr: Agression
Attorney: noun; a lawyer; Example: he's an attorney who has a practice in San Diego; fr: Avocat
Bail: noun; the temporary release of an accused person awaiting trial, sometimes on condition that a sum of money be lodged to guarantee their appearance in court.; Example: he has been released on bail; fr: Caution
Case: noun; an instance of a particular situation; an example of something occurring; Example: a case of mistaken identity; fr: Cas
Civil Code of Quebec: It is the general law that governs family and property relations in the Philippines.; Example: the civil code in force in the Canadian province of Quebec; fr: Code civil du Québec
Clause: noun; a particular and separate article, stipulation, or proviso in a treaty, bill, or contract.; Example: Clause 1 of the agreement; fr: Clause
Complainant: noun; a plaintiff in certain lawsuits; Example: the party who makes the complaint; fr: Plaignant
Contrat: noun; a formal agreement between two or more parties; Example: that is part of the contract; fr: un contrat
corporation: noun; a company or group of people authorized to act as a single entity (legally a person) and recognized as such in law.; Example: municipal corporation; fr: Une corporation
Court: noun; a tribunal presided over by a judge, judges, or a magistrate in civil and criminal cases; Example: The Superior Court; fr: La Cour
Criminal record: noun; A history of being convicted for crime; Example: She has a criminal record for fraud; fr: Casier criminel
Custody: noun; the protective care or guardianship of someone or something.; Example: he was trying to get custody of their child; fr: Garde
Damages: noun; physical harm caused to something in such a way as to impair its value, usefulness, or normal function.; Example: He has done a lot of physicals damages; fr: Dommages
Doctrine: noun; A belief or set beliefs held and taught by church, political party,or other group; Example: The paralegal had to consult the doctrine; fr: Une doctrine
Guilty: noun; Culpable of or responsible for a specified wrongdoing; Example: He has been declare guilty; fr: Un coupable
Hearing: noun; An opportunity to state one's case; Example: The hearing for this case is in 3 days.; fr: Une audience
Judge: noun; A public official with authority to hear cases in a court of law and pronounce judgment upon them; Example: The judge pronounce the man guilty; fr: Un juge
Jurist: noun; An expert in or writer on law; Example: This jurist wrote a doctrine; fr: Un juriste
